Complete environment for Java

Eclipse is an integrated development environment used as a tool for programmers to edit, compile, debug, and deploy programs. Use it to wrap around your existing projects and use different JDK profiles. It is a free product developed under open source license, with no restrictions on its usage. It is a project scheduling application written in Java and featuring gantt chart, resource management, calendaring, import/export (MS Project, HTML, PDF, spreadsheets). It is a fully integrated environment featuring everything you'd expect from a Java environment including graphical and textual editing, a built-in editor, compiler, virtual machine, debugger and interactive object creation. Indeed, the attention to detail for learners and ease of use is outstanding in it which is no surprise since it was developed by researchers at Deakin University Melbourne, Australia and the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK. Just look at what this application can do for you: Manage projects with ease in an interface that is much like Microsoft® Visual Studio®. This version allows you to add the Eclipse functionality to Eclipse, installing it as a plug-in. The project is supported by Sun Microsystems so you can be guaranteed that what Eclipse teaches you is officially approved.

Firefox 3 - a vintage edition of Mozilla's browser

All aspects in Mozilla Firefox 3 can be re-sized, moved or taken away and there are multiple skins, interface styles, and language options. It does this by tracing the download's originating server and comparing it to sites on its blacklist. It is slightly faster than IE 9 and much faster than IE 8. It is a perfectly valid alternative to the traditional desktop web browser, with the additional advantage of not requiring installation. Navigating in it has also been made much easier due to a more predictive URL bar which actually searches cached webpages for keywords and archiving of exactly when you viewed certain pages is more precise and refined. Another nice feature is InPrivate Browsing, Mozilla Firefox 3's version of the popular Chrome Incognito mode. If you use or are thinking of using Google Chrome in a business context, Mozilla Firefox 3 is essential. It 9 also offers improved speed and performance, as well as better compliance with web standards and new technologies. It takes a page out of Google's play book and adds automatic updating.

Test the beta version of Firefox

Luckily Firefox Beta includes a built-in Flash player and adblocker. If you are an Internet Explorer user who wants more options, however, or are just interested in life beyond Mozilla, give Firefox Beta a try. It takes a page out of Google's play book and adds automatic updating. As for new features, it 8 includes two main new tools: one is Accelerators (previously known as Activities), and the other is Web Slices. If it develops more of its own personality and features it could be a serious alternative browser. Firefox fans may mourn the move to Chrome, but it has made Firefox Beta a cleaner, more efficient social browser. Luckily it includes a built-in Flash player and adblocker. Performance this program is the quickest version of the browser yet.

Flex Builder plug-in for the Eclipse environment

The core of Flex Builder, the NetBeans Platform, can also be used separately, to build any kind of application. It is a modular IDE, and plenty of free and commercial add-ons are available for it, supporting a wide variety of technologies. It is an integrated development environment used as a tool for programmers to edit, compile, debug, and deploy programs. It is a powerful cross platform development tool based on Java. It is built entirely in Java (you will obviously need Java installed to use it) but goes far beyond Java. The project is supported by Sun Microsystems so you can be guaranteed that what it teaches you is officially approved. For those new to Java programming, or for those prefer to self teach themselves the language, Flex Builder is an excellent starting point. It is a fully integrated environment featuring everything you'd expect from a Java environment including graphical and textual editing, a built-in editor, compiler, virtual machine, debugger and interactive object creation. If you do get stuck at any stage, there is a Google discussion forum for problems and issues associated with Flex Builder. Indeed, the attention to detail for learners and ease of use is outstanding in it which is no surprise since it was developed by researchers at Deakin University Melbourne, Australia and the University of Kent in Canterbury, UK.

Desktop translator integrated with Google Translate

Goot includes a few personalization options, like the possibility to select a custom text font and pick another keyboard layout when translating to languages that use different keyboards. Unfortunately, there’s nothing very original about goot. If your language is not supported by other online translators then give goot a go, otherwise you might find other free solutions do just as good a job. It is set to auto-detect the language your text is in, but you can also enter the settings options and select the language for yourself. Because of strange performance issues, this program is not worth using if you're just looking for an on-the-fly dictionary or translator. It is an easy to use 4 in 1 language utility which can translate text between 8 languages with 23 language sets, Find meanings of words, Read the contents of files and clipboard. It can also read the translations in its native language with proper accent using the in-built text-to-speech feature. It has some nice features such as automatic source language detection, accuracy calculator and even the option to create a personal dictionary with corrected, improved translations. It is a fairly average – but functional – desktop translation app.
